Sjoukje and I have been friends since we were 14 or 15 and we were both working at a local place that sold “oliebollen”. If you don’t know what oliebollen are… you’re missing out
I guess the closest thing for a Canadian would be the Dutchie donut from Tim Hortons. But they are not nearly as good! Ever since we moved to Canada 3 years ago I’ve baked them on New Year’s Eve, because that’s what the Dutch do. Anyway, Sjoukje and I have been friends for over 10 years and I can’t tell you how excited I was when she told me that she was coming for a visit with her family! They spent a week with us before they left for a three week road trip to California. It was so much fun to have the three of them here and to show them a little bit of what our life looks like now. Rosalynn loved having a friend to play with 24/7, and we even heard her say his name once–she hasn’t said very many words yet, so that’s pretty special!
When I asked Sjoukje if there was anything in particular they wanted to do on the Island, she said that they definitely wanted to do a photo session with us! So of course I said yes! Here are some of my favourites from their session.
