Wedding Shawn & Zoe | Victoria Wedding Photographer

The day before Zoe & Shawn’s wedding it rained, which made us even more grateful for the beautiful sunny day it was on their big day! The backyard of Zoe’s stepdad had gorgeous views of Cowichan Bay village and it was a perfect backdrop for their ceremony and reception. We love shooting backyard weddings, there’s just something about them that makes them very intimate, and relaxed. There are SO many things we loved about this wedding! Zoe’s wedding dress was out of this world, designed and made by the talented Mariko Aramaki, a Vancouver fashion designer. We LOVE Cowichan Bay; it is one of our favourite locations! Zoe is so creative; we love the way she displayed their engagement photos, her decorations, and the “wish tree.” We can probably go on and on about the things that we loved about this wedding, but we won’t Just enjoy the images!

Photo Booth Shawn & Zoe’s Wedding | Victoria Wedding Photographer

We had a blast last Saturday at Shawn & Zoe’s wedding in Cowichan Bay. Before we show you any wedding photos, we wanted to share a couple of our favourite photo booth images with you. As always, the photo booth was a lot of fun and the background totally worked with their wedding colours (which were different shades of green). Stay tuned for a sneak peek of their wedding!

Lifestyle Portrait Session with Cammy & James | Victoria Portrait Photographer

Our friends Cammy & James are in the process of adopting a child from Rwanda. We were very excited when they asked us to shoot some photographs of the two of them which will be forwarded to the orphanage in Rwanda, and which will play a part in the selection of a child for them. Jan spent some time with them taking photos in and around their home and at the school just down the street where their child might actually go to school in a couple of years! It is hard to understand what it must be like for them to go through this process as there are many uncertainties. It is really not that different from being pregnant. The only difference is that they do not know when exactly they will become parents, and they don’t know how old their child will be when they will get to meet him. It is very possible that their child has been born already and is living in an orphanage where it lacks the love and attention that a baby so desperately needs. Cammy & James, we really hope that you will get to bring your baby home soon! We can’t wait to meet him!

David & Kelly’s Wedding | Parksville Wedding Photographer

After a 12 year relationship Dave & Kelly tied the knot last Sunday at Pacific Shores Resort in Nanoose Bay. Their ceremony was a phenomenal location, overlooking the ocean. Immediately following their ceremony was a delicious luncheon with roasted veggies, salads, and a wide variety of barbecued meats and seafood. After the lunch we took the wedding party to the waterfront for some photos. It was a lovely sunny day, but the breeze made sure no one was too warm. During the photo session it did warm up quite a bit, so after spending some time on the beach we decided to find a more shady area as everyone was melting!
In the evening everyone went back to Sunrise Ridge Resort (where Kelly & Dave, and a lot of their friends and family were staying the night) for a cocktail party with dancing, cake, appetizers, and a photo booth. A perfect end to a perfect day for this great couple!

Glenn & Emily’s Wedding | Victoria Wedding Photographer

BC Day weekend is a very popular wedding weekend; this meant two weddings for us; the first was Em & Glenn’s vintage wedding in Shawnigan Lake. We started the day with the boys while the girls were running a little behind schedule with the hair and make-up. Just a quick tip for the ladies: expect hair and make-up to last at least an hour longer than what you’re planning it’ll take. For Em & Glenn the running late didn’t really matter, as they had planned lots of time in the morning for the “first look” and the photo shoot. We did need to make a quick change for the photo locations, but it worked out just fine. A willing neighbour saved us a drive by allowing us to take photos with his horses and Em had set up a vintage couch for some more fun shots.
When their wedding venue fell through only three weeks before the big day, their family and friends came together to make their wedding possible. It was a lovely backyard wedding with a vintage theme that they incorporated into the smallest details. The decor was definitely stunning! We decided on a more vintage toned post processing of their images, because it fits their wedding so well. For images of the photo booth, please visit our Facebook page!

Wedding Kris & Eileen at Garry Oak Preserve | Victoria Wedding Photographer

Kris & Eileen travelled all the way from Switzerland to get married in Maple Bay on July 3rd. Not only they travelled far for their “destination wedding;” their family and friends came from all over the world to be with them on this special day. His brother, the best man, travelled to the Island from Australia; there were other family members from Switzerland, from California, Halifax and a million other places. These two are truly loved by many people; their wedding was a reunion of sorts.
Having written their own vows they hinted that they would want to share them with each other before the actual ceremony, in a more relaxed and private setting. That’s when we suggested to do a “first look” on the morning of their wedding. They loved it! And we did too It is great to be given the opportunity to create photographs of a couple before their wedding, but this is only for those that aren’t completely stressed out by the thought of standing in front of dozens of their friends later on. We want the images of the couples we work with to represent their true feelings for each other, and with Kris & Eileen that was not a difficult task at all.
Their ceremony location was the Garry Oak Preserve in Maple Bay. What a stunning location that is! A big open field with a few oak trees, and their ceremony was right underneath one of the oldest Garry Oak trees. We wanted to share a couple of our favourite photographs, and we will soon post some spreads of their album design as well.

Wedding Adam & Jennie | Victoria Wedding Photography

Last weekend Adam & Jennie got married at the UVIC Interfaith Chapel in Victoria. They recently moved up Island where Adam is managing a resort, but they came down for Victoria to celebrate this beautiful day with friends and family. A large group of relatives traveled all the way from Ontario to be part of Adam & Jennie’s wedding, including his parents.
These two had organized everything into the smallest details, so the day itself was relatively stress-free! They had planned a good number of hours between the ceremony and reception so we were able to spend a nice amount of time with them taking photos. There was even time for a coffee break!
On the first photo below you can see their rings and Adam’s wedding ring has a very interesting story behind it… The day he proposed (Christmas 2008) they went for a walk and saw two eagles; which they took as a sign of good luck. Then when they were trying to find Adam the perfect wedding ring they had a hard time finding one they liked. Finally, they found this ring, made by a first nations artist, and it features an eagle! Beautiful!

Ian and Tanya’s Wedding at Starling Lane Winery – Victoria Wedding Photographer

Last Saturday was a very special day for Ian and Tanya. After seven years they became husband and wife! It was a wonderful celebration with friends and family at a beautiful location. The forecast seemed to be far from positive (rain) for an outside wedding, however, the weather couldn’t have been better!
